Artists Residency at 20 Colegate, Norwich.
Drawing on inspiration from their own practice, each resident has created a response to the grand yet desolate surroundings of the former Broards Authority building at 20 Colegate. A space left vacant for a year prior to the residency.
Through a great diversity of subject, media and technique the participating artists have created a collection of work that explores and reflects the space which they have occupied for the two and a half weeks preceding the exhibition.
The concluding show gives great insight into the interaction of artists with their working environment, and provides an engaging, new perspective that challenges the relevance of conventional gallery spaces within contemporary art culture.
The group show features large scale installation by Neil Clarke, Alvina De-La-Mare, Hester Draycott, Maximilian Egger, Jo Haywood, Milly Hirst, Rosie kneeshaw, Alex Lingford, Fiona Livesey and Mathew Parkin, in addition to live works from performance artist Hester Draycott (5-8pm) and acoustic singer/songwriter Milly Hirst(7pm) on the launch night.
The show was curated by Fiona Livesey and supported by Norwich City Council.
